By the end of the 19th century, a young woman spent six months shopping for the fitting and refinement of a gown worth around some 500 in today's currency. 

Fashion in the 20th Century

The social and economic milieu of the world wars was creative of fashions, along with their passing styles. The new fashion of the 1940-1960 period was affected greatly by recent painting, and at least since the beginning of the 1960s has been using many of the most revolutionary tendencies in painting as an inspiration. The specter of war, almost immediately after the installation of the fashion system, took care of any sort of continuity toward the significant past. War, to some extent, was a catalyzing moment for the establishment of the new graces and silhouettes of fashion-its postponements and terrific fashions. 

With so many changes taking place men leather jacket post-war, each fashion movement consistently learned from the past, revived forgotten styles, and thus nurtured future possibilities for themselves. What became the decade of fashion was subsequently tortured by war as it pulled itself together and began to organize into modernity.

Fashion, as acknowledged in subsequent decades, was strongly influenced by the world of entertainment, and, most importantly, in the 1960s, fashion and art converged in an extraordinary fusion that caught the imagination of the whole world.
