Maruti Suzuki Ignis- All you need to know

In the indigenous carmaker’s portfolio, the Maruti Suzuki Ignis sits between the WagonR and the Swift. The starting price of the Ignis is from Rs 5.84 lakh onwards. For your reference, the Ignis made its debut as a replacement for the Maruti Suzuki Ritz.

Besides that, the Maruti Suzuki Ignis doesn’t offer a CNG version, currently. However, as you are already aware, other Maruti Suzuki cars cater to CNG-oriented buyers.

Unlike the international-spec Ignis, the Indian-spec doesn’t get a hybrid and a diesel engine. But, interestingly, the Maruti Suzuki Ignis is assembled only in India and Japan. That said, there are a few selected models that are imported from India by other countries.

The Maruti Suzuki Ignis takes on the likes of the Maruti Suzuki WagonR, Celerio, and Tata Tiago. So, if you are planning to buy the Ignis, below are a few things that you should know about this indigenous crossover micro SUV. But before you start reading, you should know that the features mentioned in this blog belong to the top-most variant of the Maruti Suzuki Ignis, the Alpha AMT.

Let’s begin knowing this vehicle, then!

Maruti Suzuki Ignis Features

The top model of this crossover five-door SUV offers power steering, power windows (front and rear), fabric upholstery, a height-adjustable driver seat, a dual-tone dashboard, and chrome inserts on panels inside and outside the car. It also offers a vanity mirror but only on the co-passenger sun visor. You also get magazine holders at the backside of the front seats. Further, it misses out on a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a leather-wrapped gear selector and more importantly, the armrest for the driver. Considering the Ignis price, the car manufacturer should have offered leather treatments inside this vehicle. As far as the capacity is concerned, the Maruti Suzuki’s boot capacity is rated at 260 litres. You can also increase the boot space by folding the rear seats with their 60:40 split seats feature. Speaking of the trunk, the driver can open the boot lid via the electric tailgate release feature.

Furthermore, it has electrically adjustable ORVMs with integrated turn signals and a rear defogger with a rear wiper. Speaking of wipers, it misses out on a rain-sensing wiper. As for user interaction, the Maruti Suzuki Ignis has an analogue instrument cluster with a MID (multi-information display). It shows relevant readings, such as average fuel consumption, average speed, distance to empty, clock, low fuel level warning, low engine oil warning, etc. Further, the driver’s display has a door ajar warning, gear indicator, and gear shift indicator, and comes with an analogue tachometer. You can also manually adjust the brightness of the instrument cluster.

At the centre of the dashboard, you will get integrated 2DIN audio with a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, alongside Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. In addition, it also has a voice command, multi-function steering wheel, radio, and iPod compatibility. But it doesn’t have a CD player. For phone connectivity, it has USB and Auxiliary outlets, and a Bluetooth feature.

As far as the exterior illumination is concerned, the Maruti Suzuki Ignis has a halogen taillight, LED DRLs with LED headlights, coupled with halogen foglights, placed on the lower section of the front bumper. But the top model of the Maruti Suzuki Ignis doesn’t get an automatic headlight feature. As mentioned earlier, the carmaker should have at least offered automatic headlights, if not rain-sensing wipers.

Keeping safety in mind, the top model of the Maruti Suzuki Ignis offers central locking, power door locks, child safety locks, manually adjustable day/night IRVM, engine immobiliser, crash sensors, engine check warnings, etc. Other safety features comprise ABS with EBD, ESC, hill assist, pretensioners and force limiter seatbelts, ISOFIX child seat anchorages, speed-sensing auto door locks, and speed alerts. Besides that, the Ignis also has a key left reminder, headlamp-on reminder, Suzuki Tect (Heartect) Body and pedestrian protection compliance. And, for easy reverse parking, this vehicle has a rear camera with rear sensors. Last but not least, the Maruti Suzuki Ignis has dual airbags.

Despite all these safety features present, the Maruti Suzuki Ignis secured a one-star safety rating in the Global NCAP’s crash test. At the end of the day, it’s the build quality that matters more than an array of safety features. And, as you may know, most Maruti cars couldn’t secure impressive results. Now, keeping the features aside, let’s now jump to the specifications.

Maruti Suzuki Ignis Specifications

The Maruti Suzuki Ignis has a VVT engine, which is a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder petrol mill that can churn out 81.80 bhp at 6000 rpm and 113 Nm of peak torque at 4200 rpm. This micro crossover SUV makes its front wheels spin via a standard five-speed manual transmission and an optional five-speed AMT. It stores its fuel in a 32-litre fuel tank. As far as fuel efficiency is concerned, the Maruti Suzuki Ignis’s mileage is 20.89 km/l, which is the same in manual and automatic versions. Please note that this is an ARAI-certified mileage figure. In addition, it is worth mentioning that real-world mileage can vary with local traffic conditions and individuals’ driving styles. However, as per the feedback from the owners, the Maruti Ignis’s real-world mileage is 16 km/l and 14.65 km/l in manual and automatic versions, respectively.

Besides the engine performance, let’s now move on to the suspension setup of the Maruti Suzuki Ignis. It has a generic setup like in all other cars that are under Rs 10 lakh. The Ignis has a MacPherson Strut at the front and a Torsion Beam at the rear. Moreover, Maruti suzuki cars are engineered keeping Indian roads in mind. So, it shouldn’t let you lament the driveability as well as rideability.

Further, this suspension setup works in combination with the disc-drum brakes. The base model of the Maruti Ignis might offer drum brakes, but it would be best if you check out the detailed list of features and specifications of this car or any other vehicle on the autoX website.

Prices and Variants

As far as the price figures go, the indigenous car manufacturer sells the Maruti Ignis in four broad trims: Sigma, Delta, Zeta, and Alpha. Further, these trims make up a total of seven variants. The Maruti Suzuki Ignis’s price starts at Rs 5.84 lakh for the base model, the Sigma MT, and goes up to Rs 7.55 lakh for the top model, the Alpha AMT.
